This watercolor by Düsseldorf painter Eugen Dücker from his late oeuvre is dated to the year 1910. Dücker, who represents the teaching of plein-air painting, preferably painted deserted landscapes without figure staffage, in which he manages to catch an evocative atmosphere. Our landscape with a farmstead is covered by a cloudy sky, the wind lets the treetops leans sideways and is nearly sensible by looking at the painting.



The watercolor is signed and dated ‘E. Dücker 1910’. Front and reverse of the sheet are faintly toned, the sheet edges slightly darkened. Verso with small remains of mount. Overall in good condition. The paper measures 27.4 x 36.2 cm, the framed dimensions are 70 x 55 cm.



Eugen G. Dücker (1841-1916)

Eugen Gustav Dücker was born 1841 in Arensberg. He studied from 1858-62 at the Academy in St. Petersburg. In 1864 he moved to Düsseldorf. There he became is the successor of the famous landscape painter Oswald Achenbach and took over the teaching of the landscape class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. He is regarded as representative of the plein-air painting and encouraged his students to paint in nature. Among his students emerged famous painters such as Max Clarenbach, Otto Modersohn, Fritz Overbeck and Helmuth Liesegang as well as others.
