Etching/Aquatint, by Listed Artist JAMES ALPHEGE BREWER<p>Titles: Vintage Etching / Aquatint, St. Paul's Cathedral (The Incoming Tide)<p>Artist: James Alphege Brewer<p>Age: Circa 1930-1940<p>Medium: Etching / Aquatint <p>Size: Image area measures 23" x 16 1/2"<p>Frame: Framed under glass in wood frame with gilt "crackle" finish. Frame measures a large 33 1/2" x 27". Slight wear to the gilt finish of the frame as seen in photo. <p>Condition: Misty view of St. Paul's Cathedral across the river, executed in tones of greens and browns. Wonderful overall use of color to set mood. Under the title in the margin of the lower left corner is the raised seal and hallmarks of the Royal Artists. <p>Signature: Bottom Right Corner.<p>BIOGRAPHY: Painter and etcher. Son of the artist H. W. Brewer and brother of H. C. Brewer, R.I. Exhibited at the R.A., R.I., Paris Salon. Lived in London. Works by James Alphege Brewer appear on the international auction market periodically as well as in gallery showings. A similar piece to this realized $443 at auction in Selkirk's, St. Louis, in 1994. Complete auction records will be supplied to buyer.
