Esturillo, Eduardo Chavez & Rodrigo Baeza Rogers. PESO CHILE INDEPENDIENTE. DOSCIENTOS ANOS 1817-2017. Asociacion Numismatica de Chile, Santiago. 2017. Square 4to. 93, (3) pages. Original pictorial boards, jacket. Signed by the author. Tables. color historic, document, coin and coin detail photos throughout. 25 color coin plates. Spanish text. Jacket/Book Fine. This publication pays homage to the Independent Chilean Peso and to those who made its design and subsequent minting possible. The Independent Chilean Peso was the first coin minted with the symbols of the new country from 1817. Therefore, 2017 commemorates its bicentennial, with two hundred years of history. Another reason why it is considered one of the most important numismatic pieces is due to its design and symbology: the powerful image of an erupting volcano, symbolizing the irrepressible force of a new dawn for a country eager to write its own history. The book begins with describing the symbols of the incipient nation and how they are reflected in the design of the first coins of the new circulation of the Republic of Chile. It continues with addressing the characteristics of this, the decree that authorized it, its assayers, engravers, and presents new information related to the amounts minted per year, by virtue of new documentation analyzed. Finally, the series of Chile Independiente Pesos is presented in each of its minting years and in photographs that show the remarkable imprint of the first coin to carry the denomination 'UN PESO' that was stamped in the American continent. Lot weight: 2 lbs 0oz. Subject(s): Chilean Coinage.
