A handwritten document first filed for record on October 21, 1860 in the records of Esmeralda District, Calaveras County, California by Elijah Seaton giving power of attorney to W.M. Boring, Atty., of the same location. This authority gives to Boring the power “…to act and do all things for me as if I were present. And more especially for me and in my name to take charge of, superintend, sell and convey, should he think it proper and for my interest any part or portion of the following described portions of mining, gold and silver bearing lodes, situated in the District of Esmeralda and other places….” He then names the properties involved, which include the “Utah” in the Bright Star Lode; the “Mammoth Lode;” the “Erin Go Bragh;” “Last Rose of Summer;” and the “American Lode,” all of the aforementioned disitrict; and lastly the “Red Lode,” on Gold Hill, Carson County (Nevada). This power of attorney was re-filed for records on Monoville, Calaveras County, California on October 19, 1863. 7.25 x 9.5” on blue paper, 4 sides. The name of Esmeralda District in Calaveras County is derived from the Esmeralda, Nevada discoveries.
