Eskimo Ivory Cribbage Board
Mid 1900s, Huge and graceful carved ivory walrus tusk with true artist's inked scrimshaw work! On the top, along with the detailing surrounding the peg holes, there is a scene to the left that shows a polar bear and her cub, and a large walrus, sitting on separate ice flows, and to the right a scene showing whalers in their small boat having just harpooned a large whale. On the bottom there is a scene showing two adult caribou in the woods, a woolly mammoth with curled tusks, a map of the state of Alaska next to a flag of the same, next to a younger caribou shown in velvet. Along with all that, on the front edge there is an elaborate scene of a musher with his dog sled and team. There is also a compartment on the base that holds the pegs and has a friction fit cover on it. This is museum quality work and is really large and amazing. Very good condition. 29" long.
