TLS in German, signed “Rommel,” one page, 8.75 x 11.5, no date. The partly-translated text reads in part: “I feel that it is not possible to reply to these greetings in personal form. The army daily reports that you all follow with great interest certainly give you an excerpt of the performance of the troops entrusted to me. The benefits are enormous. The great heat of the day, the cold of the night, the eternal sand and dust, and not least serious battles on far most difficult terrain…present each soldier of the German Africa Korps continued highest standards.” In fine condition, with light creasing, intersecting folds, and two punch holes along the left side. Accompanied by an unsigned postcard portrait. According to the consignor, this letter was sent after Rommel’s famous victory at Tobruk—an unexpected success and great victory over Montgomery's forces.
