Erwin Fieger (1928-2013), Lenin Poster, Moscow, USSR, 1980
The present photograph, entitled ‘Lenin Propaganda in the Street’ by Erwin Fieger was shot in 1980 and is part of the series titled ‘Olympic Year 1980 in the USSR’ in which the German photographer documented the Olympic Summer Games in Moscow. Here he captured an exterior wall with a larger than life figure of Lenin. In the foreground an unimpressed pedestrian is walking past. From the 1950s onwards Fieger traveled around the world and compiled an extensive oeuvre of photographs, which are now regarded as ‘monuments of color photography’ and some of which were published in books. The present work is a first print from the estate of the photographer.

The photograph is in very good condition. On the back the work is titled, dated, signed and inscribed ‘Lenin Plakat Moskau 1980 E. Fieger / 1. Abzug’ in black felt-tip pen. The dimensions are 150 x 100 cm.
