Signed book: God’s Little Acre. First edition, first printing. NY: Viking Press, 1933. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.5 x 8, 303 pages. Signed and inscribed in fountain pen on the half-title page, “For Frank…from Erskine Caldwell.” Erskine’s novel was so controversial that a literary board in New York attempted to censor it, leading to the author's arrest and trial for obscenity. Exonerated after a jury trial, the author counter-sued the literary society for false arrest and malicious prosecution. Mild toning and creasing to dustjacket, complete separation of front hinge of dustjacket, a bit of scattered light paper loss to edges of dustjacket, owner’s bookplate affixed to first free end page, and some light feathering to signature, otherwise fine condition.
