Error 1943 Nickel Off-Met NCG MS63
Errors 1943 Jefferson Nickel. (1943) Struck on a Steel Cent Planchet. NGC graded Mint State 63. Full Steps. No date, but the fabric of the planchet tells us that this was struck in the only year that the mint employed steel blanks in striking cents: 1943. A lustrous if somewhat carbon-flecked specimen. Very rare. For any of a dozen or more different reasons, it is possible that incorrectly made blanks or simply wrong blanks can find their way into presses. The result will be a coin struck on a blank for which it wasn't intended. The most obvious wrong planchet errors are the ones where a correctly made blank from one denomination is accidentally fed into a press for another denomination. Some of the better known types are nickel struck on cent blank; nickel struck on dime blank; cent struck on a dime blank; quarter struck on a cent, nickel or dime blank; half dollar struck on a quarter, dime, nickel, cent or SBA dollar blank; SBA dollar struck on a quarter, dime, nickel or cent blank. In each case, the coin struck on an incorrect blank will weigh exactly what the denomination of that blank would have been.
Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
