Nature writer (1860-1946) who founded the modern school of animal fiction and helped found the Boy Scouts of America. Collection of three related items, including: two TLSs, each one page, 8.5 x 11, The Woodcraft League of America letterhead, dated 1927. The first, in part: "It is a matter of record that the Woodcraft Indians was founded in 1902. In 1908, Baden-Powell admittedly and in several letters, copied the scheme but added a military organization, to form the Boy Scouts. Everything of permanent value in the Boy Scouts, he took from the Woodcraft. Now I see that the Nobel Prize may possibly be given to him for the Movement. All who have looked into it impartially, consider this an injustice." The second, in part: "It would be exceedingly helpful if I could find out through you, when the Nobel Prize is to be given...All I am asking, remember, is that they do not give the honors to Baden-Powell without first investigating. If, after that, they turn me down, I shall take it in silence." Also included is a 17-page hand-corrected typescript detailing the history of the Woodcraft and offering supporting evidence for Seton's claim. In overall fine condition, with staple holes and paperclip impressions to the top.
