Bank check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Hemingway, “Ernest M. Hemingway,” payable to the bearer for $125, February 22, 1944. Endorsed on the reverse by Roberto Herrera, who was Hemingway’s close friend, part-time secretary, and brother of his Cuban doctor. Expected bank stamps and cancellation holes (some affecting his last name), and a bit of foxing to the upper left, otherwise fine condition. Three months later, Hemingway began a year of war reporting in Europe, covering some of the most important events of WWII, including the Normandy landing, liberation of Paris, and Battle of Hurtgen Forest.
