<B>Ernest Hemingway, </B></I><B><I>For Whom the Bell Tolls</B></I></B></I> (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1940), 471 pages, untrimmed, tan-cloth binding with red highlights and black lettering and facsimile signature, 8vo (8.5" x 5.75"), dust jacket (in protective sleeve). Hemingway's own experiences while reporting on the Spanish Civil War led to his writing of this powerful novel about an American who joins the anti-fascist forces during the conflict.of 1936-39.
