Ernest Hemingway, Across the River and Into the Trees (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1950), first edition, 308 pages, black-cloth binding with red lettering and gold facsimile signature, 8vo (8.5" x 5.75"), dust jacket (in protective cover). This dark 1950 novel about a retired U.S. Army officer who returns to the site in Italy where he was nearly killed during World War I is graced with a title derived from the last words of Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson at the Battle of Chancellorsville, where he was mortally wounded by his own troops in 1863. The book is in very good condition with some acidification in the endpapers; the dust jacket is good with minor wear on the edges and paper loss on the spine.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
