"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Ernest Hemingway autograph letter signed, dated 24 April 1954 ''0800'' hours on ''Gritti Palace-Hotel'' stationery, in Venice, Italy, where Hemingway was recovering after a plane crash. Letter is addressed to Kit Figgis in the aftermath of the famous January 1954 Ugandan safari plane crash, in which Ernest and Mary Hemingway were injured. Katherine ''Kit'' and Larry Figgis became friends with the Hemingways' at that time. Letter discusses Hemingway's health condition and reads in part: ''Dear Kit…awful glad to hear from you but confused…Got tired of waiting to hear from N.Y. that books money deposited so fire these off. If they bounce we'll send new ones. Figure them not to bounce…Write in a hurry on acct have to go to hospital…midnight routine to see a kidney and liver king. All burns OK. Doc. Perceval would probably doubt ever was burned. Not to mention that gal from Life…It's sort of comic. Turns out what I had was a skull fracture. Two places. That liquid had ran out in between the ear and the head was the fluid off the brain. The hemorrhage was pin pointed but made a clot over the nerve which built up slow. The clot was pressing on the nerve and made the hearing and left eye tremble. Very good American head King says impossible to happen and keeps going but says never kid myself it didn't happen. Guess that's why used to get tired at the end of the installments. Tell Roy we must be sort of rugged kittens…Miss Mary went to Paris and London…hope I can join in a week. Have to clear this nonsense up first. Hope you are fine Miss Kitt. Best to Larry. Love to you. Love to Roy and more love to you. Papa.'' Letter, measuring 6.5'' x 9.75'' on one page, has minor toning and folds throughout. Very good condition overall.
