TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Harvard University, Department of Anthropology letterhead, January 14, 1941. Letter to a museum associate, Dr. Robert Broom. In part: “I am intrigued by your statement that the Australopithecines were undoubtedly bipedal…Certainly they are epochal discoveries for the history of man and the higher primates…We have mounted a skeleton of an alleged male Bushman, but it is of dubious authenticity and quite fragile. I should like to have a skeleton, either male, or female, which would be thoroughly attested as to race…When I mentioned the possibility of procuring one from your Director of the museum here suggested that I offer you $50 for it. I am wholly opposed to embarking upon any such process of Oriental bargaining.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a few creases, and a bit of mild edge toning.
