DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, May 1, 1958. Document from Loew’s requesting permission to use Gardner’s name in a film. In part: “We are desirous of including in a forthcoming motion picture, tentatively entitled The Angry Hills, mention of your name in dialogue and action as follows…a Greek girl is hiding an American correspondent from the Gestapo…she gives him a package which she tells him contains: ‘Two volumes of Zane Grey…one Earle Stanley Gardner mystery, one razor…and three packs of cigarettes.” Signed at the conclusion by Gardner and a Loew’s representative, with Gardner adding and initialing an addendum, in part: “To become effective after May 12, 1958.” In fine condition, with filing holes to the top and expected document wear. The Angry Hills, released in 1959, was adapted from a Leon Uris novel and starred Robert Mitchum.
