Legendary director (1885–1957) whose autocratic nature and profligacy brought an end to his directorial career. He went on to enjoy success as a character actor, perhaps most memorably as Gloria Swanson’s faithful butler in the 1950 classic Sunset Boulevard. Vintage glossy 5 x 7 photo of the actor in a naval uniform, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Morris B. Yenter, all my best wishes, Erich von Stroheim.” In very good condition, with a few light creases, small repaired tear to top edge, a bit of scattered light silvering, and mild curling to horizontal edges.
