Erich Lessing’s photographs are considered as an important contribution to the documentation of the post-war period in Germany. The present vintage press print shows the border crossing point between the American and the Soviet Zone in Berlin. Even before the building of the Berlin Wall, the transition at the Soviet zone was difficult. The physical boundary was marked for example with nails in the ground and was thus made transparent for everyone passing by.
