British actor (1928-1995) best known for playing Dr. Moriarty opposite Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes and Soames Forsyte in the 1967 oft-rescreened 26-part BBCTV production of The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy. Three items: Fountain pen signature and inscription, “Happy Birthday Bill! [referring to William Shakespeare] April 23rd, 1966, Eric Porter,” on an off-white 4.5 x 7 lightly-lined sheet; an ALS, signed “E.” on the reverse of a 5.75 x 3.75 picture postcard of the Cutty Sark, postmarked August 17, 1962; and a greeting card, 4 x 6, signed inside on fountain pen, “Love to you both at Christmas, Eric.” In very good overall condition. Accompanied by an unsigned color snapshot of Porter and two friends seated at a table.
