Remarkable 1961 Gibson SG Les Paul right-handed guitar with PAF humbucker pickups replicated to the exact specifications of the 1964 ‘Fool’ guitar Clapton played extensively with Cream and designed by the eponymous Dutch design collaborative. Includes its original vintage hardshell case. In fine condition. Oversized. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the consignor attesting that this guitar was briefly played by Clapton himself at rehearsals for the 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show, in part: “I took the guitar to the Twin Towers in Century City where the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rehearsals (and ultimately the show) were taking place in a subterranean ballroom of one of the towers...Eric Clapton plugged it in and started playing Born Under a Bad Sign...After playing for a minute or more, he unplugged it, put it back in the case and personally walked it back to me. Eric handed me back the guitar, and said: ‘It's every bit as lovely as the original, but it is too extravagant of a gift, you should keep it and enjoy it, but thank you for thinking of me, I'm touched.’ I've kept this 1961 Gibson Les Paul guitar ever since.” A beautiful custom rendering of Clapton’s famous six-string, this guitar not only evokes the vibrant and euphoric sounds of Cream’s psychedelic hard rock, but likewise reminds of the very moment Clapton and his bandmates were forever immortalized in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
