ALS penned in green ink by Eric Clapton, signed “Eric and Alice,” one page, 8.5 x 12.5, no date but early 1970s. Written from Clapton’s home at Hurtwood Edge in Ewhurst, Surrey, a letter to his manager Robert Stigwood, in full: “I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your wonderful Christmas gift, I really, really, don’t think I deserve anything as nice as you have given me…As to our nonexistent feud, I hope that you have treated it with as much seriousness as I have…none!…Although you know me to be a wallflower and a stop at home, I hope that in the near distant future we can come together as friends, and forget all bullshit and just be old buddies that we really are…As to the Allen Klein affair, I still think it might be a good idea if you two got together and sorted something out…but that is entirely up to you…although I must admit that I think it could be a good idea…Hope you had as good a Christmas as we did down here in ye olde Hurtwood. Please, please, if you ever need someone to talk to, or anything for that matter…You know where I am.” Clapton draws a small sketch of himself playing guitar next to his then girlfriend Alice Ormsby-Gore, and then adds two postscripts: “P.S. you know how many letters I write a year, so please forgive the varying size of the writing, P.P.S. Don’t worry!! Everything is cooling out.” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, some light creasing, and rippling (heaviest to the right edge). Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by the original mailing envelope, hand-addressed by Clapton, who adds “Personal” to the top left corner of the front and, on the reverse, writes: “from the wandering troubadour?…”
