The painting presented here was created by Austrian artist Erhard Amadeus Dier around 1930. Shown is a caricatural genre scene, executed in loose brushwork. A painter and his female scholars painting a nude are caught unprepared by a peasant with his donkey.
The painting is signed ‘E. Amadeus-Dier’. The varnish shows horizontal and vertical rubbing of the surface, as well as rubbing long the edges due to the framing. There is a small color spot in the upper margin, on verso the outer edges show old traces of glue. The painting appears to be in a good overall impression. The image measures 48 x 64 cm.
