Ensemble Belonging To John C Major Col. of Indiana Infantry during the Civil War, who commanded the 43rd Volunteer Company in many campaigns. The ensemble is consisting of a heavy BBL half-stock Plains Rifle marked C Jacobson, BBL with Robert Ellis, New York, marked on lock. The rifle is 40 cal plus with heavy BBL, double BBL keys, iron scroll trigger guard, 43 1/2" overall, 26 3/4" period shortened BBL, silver fittings with original hand engraved plaque in script "John C Major", heavy reinforced tang, old brass repairs on underside of stock beneath lock. The rifle is in fair to good untouched "out of the attic" condition. Along with the Colonels 1858 Remington #73955, in fair to good condition, which is inscribed on the backstrap "Capt John C Major, Co A, 43 Regt Ind. Inf.", along with carpet back leather box with inscribed lid, reunion ribbons, extra grips, and buttons. A nice display from a premium Civil War Collector from Pennsylvania.
