Three Items: a color glossy 10 x 8 photo of the Hiroshima mushroom cloud rising in the distance, signed quickly in blue felt tip by George Marquardt, commander of Necessary Evil, and Paul Tibbets, who has added, “Pilot–Enola Gay, Hiroshima, 8/6/45”; a souvenir typescript of the front page of The New York Times, 8.5 x 11, dated Tuesday, August 7, 1945, with a headline reading, “First Atomic Bomb Dropped on Japan: Missile Is Equal to 20,000 Tons of TNT; Truman Warns Foe of a ‘Rain of Ruin,’” signed along the top in blue felt tip, “Paul Tibbets–Pilot–Enola Gay, 6 Aug 45”; and a souvenir typescript of a memo from the War Department directed to General Carl Spaatz by General Thomas T. Handy, dated July 25, 1945, 8.5 x 11, issuing direct orders for the 509 Composite Group, 20th Air Force to deliver its first special bomb once weather permits, signed vertically along the left edge in blue felt tip, “Paul W. Tibbets, Pilot–Enola Gay over Hiroshima.” In overall fine condition.
