ALS signed “George R. Caron, Sgt.,” one page, 8.5 x 11, September 10, 1979. Letter describing his experience on the Enola Gay, in part: "Here's my recollection of the A-Bomb attack: I was the Tail-Gunner of the Enola Gay that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945. As we approached our run, at about 32,000 feet, the bomb was released; Colonel Tibbets immediately made a sharp right turn to get as far away as possible from the explosion. About 45 seconds later there was a tremendous bright flash that temporarily blinded me, a few seconds later the first shock-wave shook the Enola Gay, a second followed seconds later. Then I could see a gray and white mushroom cloud raising from Hiroshima. The ground below at Hiroshima looked like it was on fire…I shall never forget this event which caused the Japanese to surrender a few days later; it constantly lives in my memory." In fine condition, with some creasing to the upper left corner area.
