Engraved and Signed Gold Inlaid Pre-World War II Winchester Model 12 Standard Trap Slide Action 16 Gauge Shotgun with Solid Rib

Manufactured in 1937. This example has well executed game scenes engraved on both sides of the receiver with two gold inlaid dogs pointing at a flying gold inlaid grouse in a field scene on the left side and four gold inlaid ducks on the right side over a marshy area. There is floral scroll engraving surrounding the game scenes on the sides of the receiver along with flourishes of floral scroll on the trigger guard, takedown collar, around the receiver proofmark and at the rear of the barrel. The left side of the receiver has what appears to be the initials "LC" engraved near the bottom. The bolt and shell lifter are jeweled. The takedown collar is stamped "STANDARD TRAP" which divides the serial number into two blocks of three numbers. The barrel has two nickel bead sights, is marked "FULL" with a constriction of .006 and has a 2 3/4 inch chamber. There is a "W/P" in an oval proofmark stamped to the left of the rib near the breech end of the barrel and on top of the receiver. Mounted on a nicely figured, diamond pattern checkered, extended walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with steel grip cap and checkered plastic buttplate. Length of pull is 14 1/4 inches.

Professionally embellished, 99% of the high quality blue finish remains with some minor high edge and cycling wear. There is moderate pitting underneath the finish on the action bar and some minor pitting under the finish on the bottom of the takedown collar. The choke marking has been hand engraved under the Winchester marking on the barrel. The factory markings are slightly washed out. The engraving remains crisp. Nearly all of the gold inlay remains with a small portion of a duck's tail absent. The wood is excellent with a few scattered minor scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
