Engraved and Gold Inlaid Clayton N. Nelson Custom Bolt Action Rifle in 375 H&H

This is another exceptional custom rifle built by Clayton Nelson on a rare prewar Mauser action. As noted elsewhere Clayton Nelson is an adjutant instructor at the Trinidad School Of Gunsmithing and an NRA stock making instructor. He is the instructor on "stock inletting" at the school who also happens to be exceptional, well known metalsmith. The bolt face and receiver has been completely remachined to use the excellent "375 H&H Magnum" cartridge. The barrel is contoured in a heavy Mauser sporter pattern that has an integrally machined (as part of the barrel) a front and rear sight base along with a barrel mounted front sling swivel. The ramp front sight base has a custom, spring loaded, (because of the recoil) removable front sight hood with a two leaf rear sight (one folding/one standing). The left side of the barrel is marked "375 H&H Mag" and the top of the barrel is engraved: "CLAYTON N. NELSON RIFLE MAKER" with a gold wire inlaid border. It has a custom, two-panel hand checked bolt handle with a M70 style side swing safety with a machined turned/jeweled bolt body and follower. The receiver has been fitted with a set of unmarked dovetailed scope base. It is fitted with a fabulous fully engraved floor plate and trigger guard with scroll engraving and a gold inlayed wire border. The floor plate has been beautifully hand engraved with a standing "Cape Buffalo" surrounded with heavy scroll engraving. The rifle has been hand fitted with a fabulous super-tight grain English walnut stock with a small narrow cheekpiece with a shadow line with ebony forend tip, Neidner style steel grip cap (also engraved) with a black, pebble grain recoil pad. The pistol grip and forend have also been meticulously, hand checkered in a super small 22-24 line per inch

Very fine as custom built with 99% blue finish overall with light wear on the edges and high spots. The stock is excellent with a couple minor handling marks and crisp checkering. This is a very rare rifle as Clayton Nelson only built a handful of complete rifles like this. Mechanically excellent.
