Engraved and Gold Finished Tipping & Lawden Sharps Patent 4-Barrel Derringer Pistol

Manufactured in Birmingham in the 1860s, using the patent behind (and copying closely after) the Sharps Model 1A Pistol. Post and groove sights, with "TIPPING & LAWDEN/SHARPS' PATENT" around the hammer screw on the left side of the frame, crossed scepter proofs on either side of the barrel group, "C. Smith." inscribed on top, and "HUNT & JONES" on the underside. Floral scroll engraving covers part of the barrels and over 90% of the frame, with "T. Brownsword" inscribed on the back strap and checkered grips.

Very good. The barrels show a brown and gray patina overall, with traces of the original blue, and mild spotting and handling marks. The frame shows 40% of the original gold finish with areas of well aged brass, some tool marks on the screw heads and mild handling marks overall. The period replaced grips are good, with a few small chips and dings. Mechanically very good.
