Engraved and Carved Peterlongo Model 98 Bolt Action Rifle
Established in 1857, the arms works of Johann Peterlongo operated out of Innsbruck in the Austrian state of Tyrol. Ramp blade front and fixed notch rear sights, with zig-zag patterned texture on the rib, "560 7.64" on the left flat, and light border engraving at the rear of the barrel. "NPf" smokeless powder proofs, with a pair of claw mount bases. Near full coverage checkerboard and oak leaf engraving on the receiver and trigger guard, with an stag on the trigger guard and relief engraved stag scene on the floor plate. Equipped with double triggers, turned bolt safety, sliding tang safety and a butter knife bolt. Checkered fancy Mannlicher style two-piece stock, with a horn tip and insert, raised carved oak leaf designs behind the raised cheekpiece, sling swivels and a solid recoil pad.

Condition: Excellent as professionally sporterized, with 99% of the blue finish, showing a brown patina on the takedown catch and rear of the bolt, along with some minor handling marks and spotting. Stock is very good with a small wood fill near the buttstock toe and scattered scratches and pressure dents. Recoil pad slightly age hardened. Mechanically excellent.
