The barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "44 WCF" on the left rear flat at the breech, and a Winchester oval proof on the top flat and top of the receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three line maker, model trade mark information and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The side plates and side of the receiver are engraved with scroll designs and there is a double circle panel on the left side plate with a deer in a field scene. Single set trigger and mounted with a smooth nicely figured walnut forearm with a steel end cap and checkered straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate. The included Cody Firearms research verification confirms the serial number, caliber, plain trigger, checkered stock and shipped on October 23, 1905. Serial Number: 569665B
Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a brown and gray patina with some light oxidation and scattered minor dings on the barrel and moderate oxidation on the buttplate. The rear sight leaf is rusted in the down position and wouldn't flip up. There are some original case colors on the hammer and the lever has a dark patina with minor spotting. The wood is also good with scattered minor dings and heavy wear to the checkering on the stock wrist, showing most of the original pattern. The markings and engraving are clear. The lever will not rest completely flush to the tang, causing it to not be latched, otherwise the action functions properly.
