Engraved Thomas Jackson Side by Side Damascus Barrel Under Lever Hammer Shotgun

This example was manufactured between 1840 and 1869. The receiver, side plates, hammers, under lever, trigger guard, forearm hardware and the top tang of the buttplate have masterfully executed floral scroll engraving along with a dog on point on the trigger guard, three birds on the lower tang and two birds on the top tang of the buttplate. The side plates are both engraved "THOMAS JACKSON./EDWARDS STREET." and the barrel rib is engraved "THOMAS JACKSON.29 EDWARDS STREET. PORTMAN SQUARE. LONDON" and a "2". The top of the buttplate tang is also engraved with a "2" indicating this was originally part of a game bird set. The barrels are both unchoked and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with an extractor. Mounted on a nicely figured, multi-point checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a grip safety, an engraved silver initial oval showing a lion wearing a crown standing on a crown holding a dagger in his right hand and something else in his left hand, and a smooth steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches.

The refinished and repaired stock has some scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically good and slightly off face.
