According to information supplied by Smith & Wesson historian Roy Jinks, this revolver was part of a 500-gun order shipped to Wexell & DeGress Co., New York City and Mexico City, Mexico. The letter also confirms the serial number, caliber, finish and barrel length. Fixed sights, with the one line address and patent dates on the barrel rib, the serial number on the butt and "C706" on the rear of the top strap under the latch and on the rear face of the cylinder. The sides of the barrel, cylinder flats, frame, top strap and backstrap are engraved with floral scroll, punch dot and geometric designs. All nickel finish with blue barrel latch and casehardened hammer, and fitted with two piece ivory grips with a raised carved Mexican eagle on the right panel.

Condition: Fine, showing 30% of the original nickel finish with some scattered speckled discoloration and the sides of the frame and trigger guard having a smooth gray patina. There is some minor pitting on the breech end of the barrel. Engraving has been recut. The replacement grips are fair having shrunk with age, with small chips on each toe and numerous hairline and minor age cracks. The barrel marking is clear and the engraving remains crisp.
