Engraved Savage Model 99 Lever Action Rifle Attributed to Master Engraver John Murphy with Scope and Floor Plates

Manufactured circa 1950 and later professionally engraved by renowned Master Engraver John H. Murphy. The sides of the receiver have a scroll and dot engraving with a stag in a woodland scene on the left side. The scrollwork extends to the receiver tang, receiver underside and lever mount. Equipped with a Redfield 4x scope with Redfield mount, cocking indictor and sliding safety. The barrel has the two line Savage address and a filled in rear dovetail sight lot and is without provisions for a front sight. Jeweled bolt and nicely figured custom smooth forearm and high comb pistol grip stock with cheekpiece, sling swivel studs and White Line Pachmayr recoil pad. A framed sketch by John H. Murphy with his business card is included with the rifle. The sketch is very similar to the engraving on the left side of the receiver. Also with this lot are two scroll and game scene engraved floor plate with the relief engraved game scene left in the white. One floor plate has a bear and the other floor plate has an elk. These floor plates were likely done by John Murphy. The consignor has provided copies of period magazine articles pertaining to Murphy's work.
