Engraved Savage Arms Corp. A.H. Fox Trap Grade Side by Side 12 Gauge Shotgun with Desirable Features

This interesting example was manufactured in 1936. The engraving pattern is the "Trap Grade" that has flourishes of floral scroll on the sides and bottom of the receiver. Even a skeet shotgun could be ordered in "Trap Grade". The "Trap Grade" was only available between 1932 and 1936 making these shotguns quite scarce. The barrels have two ivory bead sights on a tapered vent rib, the chokes measure .010/.010 and the chambers measure 2 3/4 inches with ejectors. The top of the right barrel is stamped "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL" and the left barrel is stamped "MADE BY SAVAGE ARMS CORP, UTICA.NY.U.S.A.". The bottom of both barrels are stamped with a "3" and the barrel flat is stamped with the matching serial number and with an "SP" in an oval proofmark. The water table is stamped with the serial number "34656" and is stamped "12 GA.". The forearm hardware and inside of the forearm are stamped with the matching serial number. Fitted with a tang mounted safety and a single selective trigger. Mounted on a multi-point checkered trap style beavertail walnut forearm with Schnabel tip and pistol grip stock with a custom engraved and gold inlaid monogram grip cap (JCS) along with a leather covered recoil pad. Length of pull is 13 3/4 inches.

Very fine, the barrels retain 90% plus of the original blue finish with high edge, forearm and handling wear along with scattered minor scratches and dings. The receiver and forearm hardware retain 30% of the original case colors with a smooth silvery patina on the balance. The trigger plate and single selective trigger have been installed at a later date with the trigger plate retaining 98% of the bright original case colors. The wood is also very fine as refinished with scattered minor dings, scratches and some chipping/cracking at the back of the top tang along with an added recoil pad and grip cap. Mechanically excellent.
