Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver manufactured c. 1891-1896. The revolver is engraved with Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background. The engraving covers much of the barrel and frame, the forward portion of the cylinder above the chambers, the loading gate, bottom of the trigger guard, the butt and upper and lower portions of the back strap. The engraving coverage is equivalent to Colt "B" engraving. The engraving is well executed, period and may be factory work. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "REMINGTON ILION, N.Y." in one line in a panel formed by scallop and dot engraving with a flourish at one end. The caliber, "44 C.F.W." is roll-stamped on the lower left side of the frame is an engraved panel. The serial number, "1817" is stamped on the left side of the frame underneath the grip. The two-piece grips are ivory. The revolver butt has a factory lanyard loop. Total production of the Model 1890 Single Action is estimated at approximately 2,020 revolvers. Surviving examples of the Model 1890 Single Action are very scarce.

Good as refinished/custom embellished. The revolver has an artificial gray patina. Metal surfaces are generally smooth with some scattered flash pitting on the cylinder, forward edges of the frame and top strap. The well executed engraving is sharp. The ivory grips are in fair condition with brown stains on the tops, edges of the heels and surrounding the screw escutcheons. Both grips have numerous hair-line age cracks. The action is crisp and functions well. This is a solid example of a rare engraved Remington Model 1890 Single Action Army revolver with ivory grips.
