Engraved Piotti Wirnhier Special Skeet 68 Over/Under Shotgun

Manufactured in Gardone Val Trompia in the Province of Brescia. Each gun is hand-crafted, made to individual specifications and limited to only a few each year. Many consider Piotti shotguns to be some of the best in the world today. These shotguns were manufactured with a Merkel style action and in the specifications for German sports shooter and Olympic Champion Konrad Wirnhier (July 7, 1937 to June 2, 2002). Wirnhier won the gold medal in skeet shooting at the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics. The matte vent rib is equipped with dual bead sights. The left side of the barrel towards the breech is marked "WIRNHIER-SPEZIAL SKEET 68." The lower left barrel is marked "KG1425/PHONIX STAHL" under the forearm. The barrels are numbered to the gun. It features 3 inch chambers, ejectors and open chokes. The receiver and detachable side plates have an extensive floral scroll relief engraving on a matte background. The scrollwork extends to the forearm hardware, trigger guard and break lever. The receiver is proofed and marked "F.LLI PIOTTI" on top of the right wall. Skeletonized break lever, single trigger and tang safety. The nicely figured three piece forearm and pistol grip stock feature a contrasting grip cap, high comb, blank initial oval near the stock toe and a solid Decelerator recoil pad. The forearm is numbered to the gun. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches.

Excellent. The barrels retain 98% original blue finish with some minor loss at the muzzles. The action has a very attractive appearance with a crisp engraving. The wood is also excellent with a few minor handling marks. The checkering is crisp. Action needs work as the upper firing pin remains in the fired position.
