Engraved Oldorf Martini German Schuetzen Rifle
This is a nice example of a German Oldorf Schuetzen rifle with a Martini action. The barrel is equipped with a shrouded front sight, no rear sight and tang mounted peep sight. There is an integral 6 7/8" dovetailed quarter rib flat on the breech end of the barrel for scope or sight mounting. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "H. OLDORF, LUBECK" the bottom of the barrel, under the forearm is marked with a crown over "U", "B" and "G" proofs over "172/28" and "444". The front of the receiver under the forearm is marked "9387". Two iron ramrod pipes (with a sling swivel on the rear) are mounted on the bottom of the barrel. The action is nicely relief engraved with floral designs and a matte background. In the center of each side is an oval with a man wearing a feathered cap and there is a lions head on the bottom. The engraving design extends to the lever and heel and toe of the buttplate. The upper right front of the receiver is marked with a crown over "B" and "U" proofmark. Brown barrel and casehardened remaining parts. Long spurred trigger guard/lever, adjustable double set triggers, wooden cleaning rod and mounted with a walnut forearm and checkered straight grip stock. The forend of the forearm is carved in the pattern of a dogs head with painted glass eyes. The cleaning rod secures in the dogs mouth. The stock features a cheekpiece, Swiss style buttplate and sling swivel.

Serial Number: 9387
Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 70% of the faded original brown finish with areas thinning and showing some high edge wear, and a few minor dings and scratches. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The forearm doesn't fit tightly against the frame and has a little play to each side. The engraving remains sharp. Mechanically excellent.
