Engraved Midland Gun Company Under-Lever 8 Gauge Punt Gun
Made by the Midland Gun Company in Birmingham, this 8 gauge Punt Gun features a Damascus barrel with a single brass bead sight, with the rear 4 3/4" portion octagon, marked "MIDLAND GUN CO. BIRMINGHAM" on the top flat. The barrel is finished brown with casehardened remaining parts. The frame is equipped with an under lever which pivots to the right. The frame, lever, lock and hammer are engraved with a simple scroll design, with simple line designs on the trigger guard. The shotgun is mounted with a checkered forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a horn forend and flat iron shotgun buttplate. These Punt Guns were designed to kill a large quantity of birds with one shot.
BBL: 44 1/4 inch part octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 8
Finish: brown/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 7
Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 40% faded original brown finish with almost all of the original Damascus pattern remaining. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is good. There is a sliver missing from each side of the rear of the forearm and three small chips on the toe, otherwise there are a couple of shallow gouges on the stock and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The buttplate is a bit ill-fitting and the checkering shows moderate wear. The engraving and markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
