Manufactured circa 1903. The solid barrel rib is fitted with a single bead front sight and is marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" with fine engraved scrollwork at the breech. John Dickson & Son moved to the premises at 63 Princes circa 1849 and remained there until 1929. The barrels are brown Damascus and feature ejectors, 2 1/2 inch chambers and improved cylinder/full chokes. The barrel flats are stamped "13/1" and "NITRO PROOF 1 1/8 OZ MAXIMUM" and "12/C" inside a diamond followed by choke along with "crown/GP/V" proofs. The underside of the barrels near the breech are marked "J.D.&S" and "5680". The forearm is also numbered to the gun and the casehardened hardware features a fine scroll engraving. The box lock action has an extensive fine scroll engraved pattern and is marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON" on the sides. The scrollwork extends to the break lever, trigger guard and automatic tang safety with "SAFE" in gold. The action is equipped with double triggers and the water table is marked "JD&S" and "5680" along with two "crown/V" proofs. The nicely figured straight grip stock and forearm feature multi-point checkering, a blank initial oval on the underside of the buttstock and a checkered bare butt. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches. With the shotgun is a John Dickson & Son brown leather mutton case. The inside of the case is lined with red wine felt and has a John Dickson & Son, 63 Princes Street Edinburgh label on the inside of the lid. The top of the case has the initials "W.R.H." highlighted in gold.

Very fine as period refinished. The barrels retain 98% of the brown Damascus with some short streaks of gray near the muzzles. The action has an attractive gray patina with hints of case colors in the protected areas. The engraving is crisp. The wood is very good with a sliver of wood missing from the forearm, a few blemishes in the moderately worn checkering and a few scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. The worn case is good.
