Engraved John Dickson & Son Damascus Double Barrel 10 Gauge Hammer Shotgun

This engraved 10 gauge John Dickson & Son hammer shotgun features Damascus barrels with a single bead front sight on a solid rib marked "JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" with a wedge of engraved scrollwork at the breech, 2 3/4 inch chambers and an extractor. The bores are .767, wall thickness is .119. The barrel flats have crown/letter proofs and "J.D&S" as well as the serial number. A band of engraving is featured on the breech end of the barrels. The barrels and forearm are numbered to the gun. The trigger guard, receiver, lock plates, break lever, hammers and grip cap feature an extensive English scroll engraving. The lock plates are marked "JOHN DICKSON/& SON". The water table is marked "JP/PATENT No 1104/4433" inside a diamond, "PURDEY'S/PATENT/BOLT" and "J.D&S.-3283/PATENT ACTION" with two "crown/V" proofs. The nicely figured forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered and feature a grip cap and checkered bare butt with metal toe and heel plates. A blank silver initial oval is on the underside of the buttstock. The forearm has a single barrel wedge, scroll engraved hardware and an iron tip insert which also is scroll engraved. Length of pull is 14 1/8 inches. Established in 1820, John Dickson & Son continues to manufacture quality firearms under the name Dickson & MacNaughton, which brought together many of the most famous names in Scottish gunmaking under one trade company.

Very fine.The barrels retain 97% of the Damascus with some thinning to a gray. The receiver, lock plates and hammers retain 95% of the case colors. The trigger guard retains 70% of the blue finish. The wood is very fine with some chipping near the upper tang and a few minor handling marks with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
