Engraved Early L. C. Smith Specialty Grade Side by Side Shotgun with Desirable Features

This example was manufactured in 1913. The side locks, receiver, trigger plate, trigger guard, forearm hardware and break lever all have floral scroll engraving with a game scene on each side lock. The left side lock shows two quail sitting in a prairie environment and the right side lock shows a duck in flight over a duck sitting on the water. The barrels have a brass capped ivory front sight and an ivory mid bead sight on the solid rib, are choked improved modified/full and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. Fitted with a Hunter One selective single trigger. Mounted on a multi-point checkered walnut beavertail forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and a Hawkins red rubber recoil pad. Length of pull is 13 7/8 inches.

Professionally refinished (barrels), the barrels retain 95% of the high quality blue finish with some scattered dings and scratches along with some high edge and forearm wear. The casehardened components retain 30% of the original case colors in the protected areas with a silvery patina on the balance and some scattered minor freckles. The wood is very good as professionally repaired with scattered scratches and dings along with a few minor hairline cracks behind the lock plates and an added recoil pad. Mechanically fine with the exception of the trigger selector switch stuck on right barrel first. An attractive example!
