Engraved Colt Single Action Revolver with Carved Ivory Grip with Factory Letter
Manufactured originally in 1910, this revolver was subsequently rebarreled and professionally engraved in a floral scroll and punch dot background engraving pattern. The only areas not engraved are the front strap, front sight and trigger guard plate. The upper and lower edges of the ejector housing have a feather pattern and there is a simple vine pattern in the cylinder flutes. The top of the post war replacement barrel is marked with the one address in a panel, the left side "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 44 SPECIAL" in a panel and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent date marking in a panel followed by the Rampant Colt. The left upper front of the trigger guard bow is marked with he Colt triangle "VP" proof and "W" on the rear. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Standard blade front and frame notch sights, and fitted with two piece ivory grips with an eagle/snake motif relief carved on the right panel. The accompanying copy of a Colt letter states 5 1/2" barrel length, caliber, scroll engraving by the Nimschke shop in New York, nickel plating, ivory relief carved steer head grips with gold overlay on the horns and ruby eyes, and that it was shipped to Hartley & Graham in November of 1910.

Condition: Very fine as custom re-engraved . The revolver retains 98% of the original nickel finish. There is some discoloration on the frontstrap and some frosting on the inside area of the trigger guard. There is some minor pitting on the inside area of the trigger guard under the finish, and grind marks under the finish on the muzzle. The replacement grips are ill-fitting and remain very good with hairline age cracks, a mellow aged patina and sharp carving. The markings and engraving are sharp and clear. The action is excellent.
