revolver 4 3/4" barrel, nickel finish, New York style engraving shipped plain to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, New York, and belonged to early South Dakota 1902 RoundUp cowboy Frank C. Gothier. Born in Iowa Frank left home at 13, breaking horses at 16 worked through Colorado, Sandhill of Nebraska, Wyoming and eventually riding for Grant Robinson near Pine Ridge Reservation. Frank worked the Big Round Up all the while trapping in his spare time. In 1904 Frank settled on a homestead in Hay Canyon near Smithwick SD married Nellie Neebel of Buffalo Gap, returned to Iowa in 1910 to farm and later became a distinguished pioneer in the mink business forming the Gothier and Sons Mink Farm in Anton Iowa. Revolver shows full scroll engraving, all metal surfaces with a silver gray patina, traces of nickel around trigger guard and SN area of frame two piece walnut grips checkered with inset ivory and pearl diamonds. Barrel shows correct visible 2 line address, left side frame with 3 line patent, trigger guard stamped 44 CF. A great old Colt remaining in original well used condition, all matching visible serial numbers, includes letter of provenance from the family, Mfg'd 1884 Antique. Est. 3500-6000
