Engraved Colt Army Thuer Conversion revolver, .44 cal., 8” barrel, checkered ivory grips, #198635. This rare and desirable Colt is in overall very good condition showing a grey patina to metal surfaces with periodengraving, wolf’s head engraved hammer, approx. 45% original cylinder scene remaining, all matching visible serial numbers except cylinder which is numbered 162; crisp action, good bore, very goodperiod ivory grips showing age cracks on butts and an old loss to the front left toe; accompanied by a Thuer cartridge example. The Thuer Conversion revolver was Colt’s first production of a revolving firearmchambered for a metallic cartridge (circa 1869-72) with only approx. 5,000 manufactured in 6 different models making it a prized specimen for the Colt collector; in a large frame, engraved and with the ivory grips,this example is particularly desirable.
