English mahogany library armchair, in the manner of Robert Adams (1728-1792) Circa 1900 a highly carved and shaped crest-rail with pierced carved shell pediment; above a needlepoint upholstered back, and seat with padded armrests; leading to scrolling leaf-carved handrests, and stiles over a serpentine and carved seat-rail; resting on cabriole legs with shell-carved knees ending on animal paw feet. * Provenance: In 1974 this chair was purchased from the estate of Helen A. Speer of Charleston, an heir to the Chickering Piano Company who lived in the Dakota Building, at Central Park West and 72nd Street, New York, N.
