NVSN, .60 caliber, 24 inch (shortened) octagon to round barrel, smooth bore, converted from flint in period of use, English proofs, original wood shortened to match barrel; brass side plate, trigger guard and butt plate tang have the shield, bow and arrow motifs; lock plate has boar’s head with hunting horn; maker’s name is unreadable; excellent oval “chief’s head” medallion on wrist. Condition: Dark bore, iron is dark plum, wood is solid, main spring is a little “soft,” brass is dark, trigger guard has separated from the tang at the front, replaced ramrod.

Provenance: From the Estate of Thomas W. Lorimer.

These guns were specially made by the English government during the War of 1812 period. They were to be used specifically as gifts to Chiefs or tribe members of importance. The inference was to bias these men to the English cause.
