English John Dust Percussion Fowler, #NVSN, 12 ga. cal., 29" octagon to round Damascus finished barrel with under rib and brass pin front sight; Damascus and color case hardened finish. Checkered walnut one-piece straight grip half-stock with brass tulip tipped hardwood ramrod, iron pipes, blank escutcheon plate at the wrist, extended bottom tang, and smooth iron buttplate with extended tang. The extended lower tang shows light engraving and pineapple finial. A wedding ring transitions the barrel from round to octagon with a platinum band at the action. Marked "DUST LONDON" on top of the barrel and "DUST" on the lock. Manufactured in the late-18th to early-19th century. Fowler is in good overall condition, with the barrel displaying traces of Damascus pattern, drifting to gray patina, showing areas of light surface erosion and scattered spots of fine pin prick pitting. The tang and lock are lightly engraved with erosion from firing. Stock is in good condition, with the checkering worn smooth, and a small chip at the front right. Buttplate and top tang are proud with shrinkage from age. Action functions well with a replaced nipple. Bore shows moderate erosion and wear. John Dust was a well-respected British gunmaker active in London from 1761 to the early 1800's. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
