This is an English wee brass Toby character jug of a small seated man in 18th Century garb wearing an English tricorn hat and holding a mug of beer. The Toby jug was first developed and popularized in England from around 1762 by the Staffordshire potter Ralph Wood. This jug has a plain handle, and has a dark gold brass patina. The modeling, finish, and detail are quite nice. It is in very good condition except for a modest bit of wear. The date is circa 1890.
