Popular English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss

c. 1655-1690 Period, English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss, measuring 32" overall length, in good working order, Choice Extremely Fine.

This is an impressive, English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss. Barrel by, "E. TURLAND" (1655-1690) and was apparently restocked in the early 18th century.  With a 16.25" Octagon-to-Multi-faceted-to-Round brass barrel with a flaring muzzle, with 2 early proof marks and the barrel maker's mark.  Top of the barrel is engraved, "E. TURLAND" with light scrollwork.  Lock is unsigned, with simple foliage style engraving, having other engraved brass furniture with early fluted ramrod pipes.  The brass side plate has a very unusual raised relief panoply-of-Arms, a centered palm tree, and a flag with 3 Crescent moons, that are a symbolic of the Ottoman Empire.  The stock has a deft repaired break through the wrist, which is very hard to see, plus a nicely repaired and virtually invisible 2” sliver on the right side of fore-end at the muzzle.  The stock has beautiful rich grain structure, having a very nice relief carving around the barrel tang.  A rare and highly attractive original Blunderbuss, that has a sideplate worthy of further research.  Reference; See: GUNMAKERS OF LONDON 1350-1850, by Howard L.
