English Blunderbuss pistol with snap bayonet marked “Waters & Co.,Patent #860” The pistol shows a center hammer design with release mechanism behind trigger and tip of bayonet held by latch in guard. The bayonet ismounted on a reinforced lug beneath the muzzle. The arm measures 13” overall with 7-1/2” bell mouth cannon barrel measuring approx 1-1/8” across with slightly less than 1” bore. A ram rod is mounted on left sideof the barrel and the pistol is stocked in good quality walnut with slab sides. The brass shows a patina with some cleaning long ago and signature and patent slightly light. The bayonet and trigger guard and steelparts also show cleaning and drifting back to natural colors. The stocks are good with a few small dings and mars. There is a collection serial #308 painted on the inside of guard. Last sold to our consignor Richard K. Bourne auctioneer for James Elwood Jones collection 1981. From an old New York collector’s estate. Est.;$1,250-$2,500.
